Twinkling lights, warm fires, apple pie for breakfast–there are just a few of the reasons we love the holidays. The holidays’ charm can quickly fade, however, if you allow yourself to become bogged down by that age-old hunt for the perfect gift for. Lucky for you, we’ve compiled a short list of shops that offer unique shopping options, and give you a chance to support talented Portland makers and entrepreneurs.

Powell’s City of Books

If you visit Portland and you don’t spend a couple hours lost within Powell’s labyrinth of bookshelves, did it even really happen? Check out this historic, independently owned bookstore and pick up a book by a locally grown author, like Beverly Cleary, Gary Braasch, or James Beard. The Burnside location is the real deal, but there are several satellite shops to be found scattered across the city. Powell’s City of Books: 1005 W Burnside St; 800-878-7323

North of West

This stylish, design-driven boutique in downtown Portland offers women’s and children’s clothing, jewelry and bags. Many of the items are designed by the shop’s owners, crafted thoughtfully with organic cotton, and stitched in small batches in Los Angeles. North of West: 203 SW 9th Ave; 503-208-3080

Stumptown Coffee Roasters

There’s nothing that screams “Portland” than stuffing everyone’s stockings with a bag of Stumptown Coffee Roasters’ Evergreen blend—a sweet and structured coffee with festive notes of dark chocolate and apple. If you have any crazy coffee fanatics in the family, consider picking up a Chemex, cold brew set up, or even a miniature ceramic burr grinder. Delicious Portland coffee deserves beautiful brewing accessories.

MadeHere PDX

The products featured at MadeHere PDX are all designed and crafted in either Portland or Seattle. From backpacks and beanies for the outdoor enthusiast, to necklaces and nail polish for the stylish woman, MadeHere PDX has everyone on your list covered. If you’re looking to splurge on your special someone, consider checking out Portland’s Orox Leather Co.–they make gorgeous purses and shoulder bags that will last a lifetime. MadeHere PDX: 40 NW 10th Ave; 503-224-0122
